BOOK OF EZRA

INTRODUCTION

Book Of Ezra

Come home. Return to God with all of your heart. Return to God with all of your family. The Israelites have been in exile in Babylon for decades. God has moved the heart of the king to make a new decree. There is an opportunity to return to Jerusalem. The journey will be rugged, and rebuilding the temple will include opposition.

When God gives the vision, He gives the provision.

We walk by faith and pursue God as we serve together. There is a deep conviction to be faithful to God. Learning from the bad decisions of a previous generation, it’s time for reformation. Through courageous leadership, Ezra is required to exhort the people to honor God.

Coming home includes repentance, sacrifice, commitment, and walking in the light.

This book is a picture of what the church is called to do in city transformation. There are no limits to what God can do.

Seeking God

Jesus is our first love. We drift from God unintentionally. We need to break out of the ruts of sin and complacency.

Cultivate the daily habit of spending time with God and receiving from our gracious Heavenly Father. Shift out of achievement mode and enjoy drawing near to our Savior. Linger in His presence.

Be still and listen to God. Learn as the Holy Spirit guides you. Be devoted to Jesus with deep conviction. Be intentional and avoid distractions. You can experience the weekly devotions alone, with family, or with a group of friends.

Read the chapter of Scripture, watch the teaching video, answer the reflection questions, and close with prayer. Invite others to participate.

Let’s go on this journey together with God!

Scripture Challenge

It’s time to turn to God and take a deeper dive into the Bible. God’s Word is nourishment for our souls. The book of Ezra is an inspiring story of families returning to God. We are called to abide with Jesus daily and be doers of God’s Word. To maximize this series, we strongly encourage you to take these three steps:

1) Read and Meditate: Read the chapter of the week seven times, once every day. For example, in week one, we read Ezra chapter 1. Do this seven times during the week. By the end of the week, you will know that chapter and the Word will dwell in you richly.

2) Take Action: Write down what you are learning about Jesus, what He has done, how He wants you to live, and any insights from the Holy Spirit. God wants to both teach you and empower you to be a doer of His word.

3) Pass it Along: The Bible is a gift to receive and give to others. The pages of Scripture are saturated with hope. Share what you are reading with people in your life locally or overseas. You can send a text or email, post on social media, or have a conversation. Be creative. You might want to purchase a study Bible or a Life Application Bible for those who don’t have the Scriptures.

Just Choose Hope

Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.”
