BOOK OF EPHESIANS

PART TWELVE: GREATER PURPOSE

READ: EPHESIANS 6:5-9

DEVOTIONAL

EPHESIANS 6:5-9

You can glorify God through your work. Our top priority is to be faithful to Jesus. God gives us strength, skills, experiences, jobs, and roles to serve.

In the workplace, we represent Jesus, and God calls us His ambassadors and priests.

A paycheck is a blessing, but there are deeper purposes. We build relationships and serve people well. We have an attitude like Jesus. We work hard every day, even when no one is watching. We are diligent, even if it’s not our favorite job or aspect of the work. We look to go beyond our job description, as we go the extra mile to help others. We have integrity and generosity with money and resources.

If you are an employer, it’s good to remember that you are accountable to God.

Provide an environment that is fair and loving. Treat your workers as you would want to be treated. Don’t take advantage of others. Work is one way we worship God. Use your talents and abilities to make a difference and build up the kingdom of God.

PRAYER

Holy God, thank You for jobs, motivation, strength, and abilities. All of these are gifts from You. We are very grateful. We know that the way we work glorifies You. We want to serve people and meet needs well in our communities. May we be faithful at church and the workplace. How we work is part of our worship. We pray You would guide us to love our co-workers and lead them to You. In Your name, Jesus, we ask for Your strength and perseverance.
