DISCIPLESHIP JOURNEY

STAGE ONE: HOW TO RECEIVE

DEVOTIONAL

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Following Jesus begins with receiving. Grace is an undeserved gift (John 3:16). We can’t save ourselves or contribute anything to our salvation. Martin Luther said that the only thing we contribute is sin.

Salvation is received, not achieved.

We have the forgiveness of our sins, eternal life, and peace with God through faith alone in Christ alone (Romans 8:1). After deciding to follow Jesus, we grow in our relationship with Jesus as we receive daily from God. God fills us with an overflowing hope (Romans 15:13). We can’t share what we don’t have. God is our Provider, generous and eager to give us good gifts daily. Abundant life is found in Jesus (John 10:10).

DISCIPLESHIP QUESTIONS

1. What is the Gospel, and why are the two parts essential? (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

 

2. How do you know that God loves you? (Romans 5:8)

 

3. What are the promises from God when you put your trust in Jesus? (John 5:24)

 

4. How can you have full assurance that you are going to heaven? (1 John 5:11-13)

 

5. How can you receive wisdom daily? (James 1:5)

 

6. How can you receive encouragement, peace, and power from God? (2 Peter 1:3-4)

 

7. What does it mean to continually abide with Jesus as your source? (John 15:4)

 

DISCIPLESHIP MILESTONES

1. You know with 100 percent certainty that you are born again, in God’s family forever, have eternal life, and will go to heaven when you die.

 

2. You know why you have the assurance of salvation and share the Biblical promises with other people, so they have the peace of God in their souls too.

 

3. You repent of all sin and receive everything God has for you daily as you abide with Jesus. Ask God for wisdom consistently during the week.

 

This week, share the assurance of salvation with someone and cultivate the habit of receiving more from God as His grace is sufficient in all situations (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
