In Lystra, many people worshipped idols. The people started to worship Paul and Barnabas. They deflected the praise and reminded everyone that they are human, not gods. The message they proclaimed was to turn from worthless idols to the living God! An idol is anything we substitute for God. It can be a person or an object. Blessings are gifts, but they can turn into idols in our hearts. Whatever you won’t surrender to God is an idol. We can be spiritually stuck until someone speaks the clear truth. When you love someone, you care about their souls. You care enough to point them to Jesus. A true friend tells us what we need to hear, not just what we want to hear. A rebuke can ultimately be very encouraging.
Who is someone you need to tell or remind about the hope of Jesus today?
VICTORY
Redirect someone to turn to God.
PRAYER
Holy God, we worship You in spirit and in truth. We honor Your standards. Thank You that You will never give Your glory to false gods and idols. We confess that our hearts can be idol-making factories. We want to remove the plank from our own eyes and help our brothers and sisters with the specks in their eyes. Grant us courage and clarity to confront the lies in the culture. We want to shine Your light in the darkness. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
