They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus.
DEVOTIONAL
WEEK 7 – SOLUTIONS
DAY FORTY-FIVE
There are some elements of conflict in this passage that might surprise you. Mark had deserted Paul on their previous mission trip together.
We don’t know the details but there was a significant amount of disappointment. Paul remembered the experience and didn’t want to give Mark a second chance.
Trust levels were low. Then Barnabas and Paul had a sharp conflict. Neither would compromise their position.
People who love the Lord can have deep disagreement.
In spite of these obstacles, there were some noteworthy positives.
Paul and Barnabas reached a point where they agreed to disagree. Barnabas brought Mark on a successful mission trip. Paul invited Silas and many lives were transformed on their trip.
Paul and Mark later became close again as brothers with mutual respect. Overall, in times of conflict continue serving God. In the end, look what God did to turn this around. There were more trips taken and more people involved in advancing the gospel.
Just Choose Hope
HOPE POINT
When there is a disagreement, keep serving God.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS

How do you know when to give someone another chance?
How can you de-escalate conflict and continue making a kingdom impact?
