After three months we put out to sea in a ship that had wintered in the island—it was an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux.

DAY EIGHTY-THREE
Paul was part of a remnant who rejected hopelessness and false gods. He was traveling on an Alexandrian ship with a figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux who were believed by some to be the guardian deities of sailors.
The God of the Bible just rescued people from a shipwreck, but not everyone was ready to give Him praise.
Paul intentionally gave thanks to God. He spoke truth about gods that are no gods at all. He kept his heart pure. He was steadfast with hope.
In our culture false gods include ourselves, other people, money, and technology.
False gods give the illusion of control, safety, and provision. It is foolish to be blessed by God and then give thanks to gods that have only steal from you.
You need to guard your heart. Do not put your security in what you can’t take with you to heaven and might be gone tomorrow. Love does not affirm false gods and worship idols.

In a culture of idolatry, be devoted to the only true God.

PRAYER
Gracious God, we worship You alone and are not ashamed of You. We are public with our faith, because You are the truth, Jesus. We speak truth because it sets people free. We demolish lies and strongholds through the power of the Holy Spirit. We redeem and take back what the enemy tries to steal. We represent You, Lord, and it is our greatest honor. We pray and find our hope in You, Jesus. Amen.
